Clanfield’s First Scarecrow Festival
11 September 2025
We’re proud to announce our first Scarecrow Festival for Clanfield!
We warmly invite you to craft and display handmade scarecrows throughout the village, adding extra charm, a sense of community, and a celebration of creativity to our streets, all while joining in the fun of a friendly competition as well as helping raise vital funds for the Centre.Did you know that the earliest records of scarecrows go back to ancient Egyptians using them around 2,500 BC to protect their wheat fields along the Nile River?
The world record for the largest gathering of scarecrows in one location was broken in 2014, just 165 miles down the road in Burton-upon-Trent, where they had 3,812 scarecrows. We don’t think we’ll reach that amount but we look forward to seeing Clanfield covered nonetheless!
We’ve already made our bark-clothed boy, brush boots and all and can’t wait to see yours!
All money raised from this year’s Scarecrow Festival will go straight back into the Centre to help us continue to run amazing free events and sessions for our community! By entering or buying a map, you are supporting:
Entry to the competition is £5 – Please call 02394211650 or pop into the centre.
Trail maps are £1 – Purchasable from the Clanfield Centre from October 27th-31st.
Entries close October 19th, after which you’ll display your masterpieces from October 27th – November 2nd for judging, where we’ll be selling trail maps for the public to see the creations and vote for their favourite!
Scarecrows will be judged on 4 categories
- Overall presentation
- Creativity
- Relevance to the theme (Autumnal & Halloween)
- Public vote (You must live within the Clanfield parish to enter)
The winner will be announced on November 2nd at 8pm on our Facebook Page
To enter, you must live within the area shown below, which ends with Drift Road in the south.
We have decided to keep the area small due to it being our first one and we want to ensure we get it right before expanding!
